Tourist stream (apply outside Australia)

This visa allows the applicant to travel to Australia for a holiday or to visit family and friends. The application must be lodged outside Australia.

Visa Overview:

•  Generally valid for 1 year and allows for single or multiple entries into and out of Australia for up to 3 months at a time.

• If you are a parent of an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you can apply for a visa valid for 3 or 5 years, with a maximum stay of 12 months in Australia every 18 months.

Business visitor stream

This visa allows the applicant to travel to Australia for business purposes and must be submitted outside Australia.

Visa Overview:

• Generally valid for 1 year, single or multiple visits to Australia, each stay in Australia for up to 3 months.

• Basic requirements: Meet health and conduct requirements and have sufficient funds to cover all expenses during your stay in Australia.

Sponsored family stream

This visa is available to visitors travelling to Australia to visit family members. Applicants must be sponsored by an eligible relative residing in Australia and must lodge their application outside of Australia.

Visa Overview:

• Generally valid for 1 year and allows only one entry. This means that when you leave Australia you will need to apply for another visa to re-enter.

• The visa has a condition '8503' 'No Further Stay', which means you cannot apply for another visa within Australia while holding this visa.

Application requirements:

• Basic requirements: Meet health and conduct requirements and have sufficient funds to cover all expenses during your stay in Australia.

• Basic sponsor requirements: Australian citizen or permanent resident at least 18 years of age, settled in Australia for at least two years and a relative of the applicant.

Frequent traveller stream

This visa stream is for citizens of the People's Republic of China who travel often to Australia for business or personal reasons.

Visa Overview:

• Valid for up to 10 years, single or multiple visits to Australia, each stay in Australia for up to 3 months.

• You can stay in Australia for up to 12 months in every 24 months.
