Important Changes to Australia's Skilled Visa Program

Starting 7 December 2024, Australia introduced key updates to its skilled visa system, including a new Skills in Demand (SID) visa and the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).

Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)

The CSOL consolidates over 450 occupations across sectors like construction, cyber security, agriculture, and health. It replaces outdated occupation lists and applies to the SID Core Skills stream and the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) visa (Direct Entry stream).

Skills in Demand (SID) Visa

The SID visa, replacing the TSS visa, streamlines pathways to permanent residency and offers three streams:

1.  Core Skills Stream: For occupations on the CSOL, earning above AUD 73,150.

2.  Specialist Skills Stream: For high-earning professionals (AUD 135,000+).

3.  Labour Agreement Stream: Soon to transition to the Essential Skills Stream.

Applicants benefit from a shorter work experience requirement and maintain similar English language standards.
