The University of Queensland (UQ) is the first comprehensive university in Queensland. It was established in Brisbane in 1909 and is one of the oldest and largest universities in Australia. The University of Queensland is also a member of organisations such as the Universitas 21 Alliance and the International Alliance for New Engineering Education. In the 2022 QS World University Rankings, the University of Queensland is ranked 5th in Australia and 47th in the world. In the Times Higher Education rankings, Queensland is tied for second in Australia and 54th worldwide. It ranks among the top in the world in sports, mineral and mining engineering, education, psychology, biology, environmental science and other majors.
